Potted Staurogyne sp 'Porto Velho'

Staurogyne sp. ‘Porto Velho’ is a unique aquarium plant from Brazil with narrow, pointed leaves that grow in a low, spreading pattern. The leaves are green with a slight purple tint under strong light. It’s perfect for midground or foreground placement in aquascapes.

Growing Requirements

• Light: Medium to high

• CO₂: Recommended for best growth

• Substrate: Nutrient-rich soil or gravel

• Water Temp: 68–86°F (20–30°C)

• pH: 5–7

• Growth: Moderate speed; spreads by runners

• Propagation: Trim stems or separate side shoots

Good to Know

This plant is a bit more demanding than Staurogyne repens, but with the right setup, it will carpet your tank beautifully. Ideal for experienced aquascapers looking for something a little different.

As I like to keep real ecosystems in my aquariums, there’s always a chance of harmless hitchhikers like snails or dwarf shrimp tagging along with your plants!

I personally keep several beneficial snail species in my tanks, including Colorful Ramshorns, Bronze Bladder and Pond Snails, Mini Rams, and Malaysian Trumpet Snails. These snails stay relatively small, help clean the aquarium, and do not eat healthy plants or cause harm.
